I am pleased to welcome you to the Kenya National Statistical Society website, and hope that you will find this site a valuable resource in statistics. We attempted to provide a selection of pages and links that will help you be more informed in statistics. Statistics producers and users, as well as researchers and educators are encouraged to be visiting the website.
The society was registered in 2008 and started operations under interim officials until November 2012, when the annual general meeting elected new officials. The main objective of the society is to promote the understanding, teaching, research, application and good practice of statistics, statistical theory and methods in all areas.
As the profile of statistics is beginning to rise in Kenya, and indeed Africa as a whole, we have deliberately devoted this year to increasing public understanding of the vital role statistics plays in planning and development. In this connection, seminars, workshops and conferences have been scheduled to take place this year (2013). Further, open days to raise awareness of the relevance of statistics to young Kenyans will take place in two universities. These activities will also be held in support of the 2013 International year of Statistics, being a worldwide campaign initiative to: (i) increase public understanding of the power and impact of statistics on all aspects of society and (ii) nurture statistics as a profession, especially among students.
To serve you better, members are requested to pay their annual subscription and attend meetings, seminars, workshops and conferences organized by the society. New members are particularly welcome to register. Friends of statistics are also encouraged to support the growth of the society.
We are looking forward to hearing from you.
